Women’s Volleyball Drops Contest to Brown, 3-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's volleyball (8-8, 3-4 Ivy) dropped its second match of the weekend, falling to Brown (6-11, 3-4 Ivy), 3-0, this evening.

How it Happened

Following an even first eight points, the Bears used a significant lead to pull away from the Crimson, 10-4.  Harvard showed its fight, continuously closing the gap including using a 3-0 run to bring the set to 14-12.  Unfortunately, despite late set efforts, another strong Bears run created enough distance to close the opening set at 25-17.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair as the Crimson battled to tie up the match.  While either team spent time in possession of the lead, neither was able to create an advantage larger than two until the Bears forced a timeout at 16-12.  The foe was able to control the remainder of the frame, halting any Crimson comebacks to put up an identical set score.

Brown was able to carry its momentum into the third set before a strong 4-0 run for the Crimson shifted the tide and forced a Bears timeout.  The set was an ever-shifting battle as the Bears looked to close the match and Harvard looked to push it to a fourth set.  Although Harvard held a four-point lead down the stretch, the Bears used a 6-1 stretch to overtake control.  Harvard tied up the set one final time at 22-22 before Brown collected three of the final four points to solidify the match.

Harvard Highlights

  • Corinne Furey was a strong offensive presence for the Crimson, registering a team-high 10 kills.  Brynne Faltinsky followed closely behind with nine kills alongside a team-best two aces.
  • Ryleigh Patterson had an all-around contest, providing seven kills with a .400 hitting percentage alongside a team-leading 2.5 total blocks and four digs.
  • Rocky Aguirre added four kills, a team-best 26 assists, two total blocks, and six digs on the night.
