Cross Country Squads Impress with Top-Two Finishes at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Harvard cross country enjoyed a spectacular day in the Keystone State, as the Crimson orchestrated excellent team finishes in both the 8k and 6k races at the Paul Short Run.

With 134 points, the Crimson women finished in first place in the 6k race, winning the Paul Short Run for the first time in school history. On the other side, the men secured a second-place finish with 95 points in the 8k race.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Senior Ben Rosa secured the best individual finish for Harvard in the men's gold 8k race. A native of Lake Bluff, Illinois and an NCAA All-Region selection last season, Rosa finished in 15th place, crossing the finish line in 23:52.6.
  • Four other Crimson joined Rosa in the top-25 finishers at the Paul Short Run. Sophomore Sam Burgess (16th), junior Shane Brosnan (19th), sophomore Ferenc Kovacs (21st), and senior team captain Joe Ewing (24th) all impressed with top-25 performances in the 8K race.
  • Sophomore Charlie Ortmans (27th) and senior Reed Pryor (33rd) also scored points for the Crimson.
  • A first-year from Vail, Colorado, William Brunner made his collegiate debut at the Paul Short Run, finishing in 134th place.
  • Six top-50 finishes pushed Harvard to the team title in the women's 6k gold race at Lehigh University.
  • An All-Region and All-Ivy League First Team honoree in 2023, senior Ella Gilson posted the Crimson's top performance in the 6k race. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Gilson finished in 20th place with a time of 20:34.80.
  • Along with Gilson, senior captain Annelies Quinton (26th) and junior Zoe Cooper (27th) produced top-30 performances, as junior Molly Malague (32nd), senior Ellaney Matarese (34th), and senior captain Marianne Mihas (49th) also contributed to the first place team finish with top-50 showings.
  • First-Year Abigail Sadler also scored points in her collegiate debut, finishing in 100th place at the Paul Short Run.
UP NEXT:

The Crimson take a week off before heading to two meets the following weekend. Harvard will compete at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in New York on Friday, Oct. 18, as another group will travel west for Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday, Oct. 19.
