PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second time in his collegiate cross country career, sophomore Tam Gavenas is the Ivy League's Men's Athlete of the Week after an impressive season debut at the John McNichols Invite.

Racing at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, the site of the 2026 NCAA Cross Country Championships later this fall, Gavenas excelled in his first meet of the 2026 season. In the men's 8k championship race, Gavenas crossed the finish line in seventh place, posting a time of 23:53.6 in the process. With his seventh place showing, Gavenas led Harvard to a 11^th place finish with 277 points, as Gavenas was the top individual finisher from the northeast region.

A native of Andover, Massachusetts, Gavenas made an impact during the 2025-26 cross country and track & field seasons. Gavenas was the Ivy League's champion in the 5000m during the outdoor season and was an All-Ivy League First Team selection after finishing in second at the 2025 Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships.

Harvard is back in competition on Friday, Oct. 9, as the Crimson travel to Madison, Wisconsin for the Nuttycombe Invitational.
