Robert Hinton scored a game-high 19 points, but Harvard Men's Basketball fell at American University, 67-55, on Sunday afternoon at Bender Arena.
In its second and final game in the Washington area on the weekend, the Crimson (1-2) remained within 37-32 with 18:16 to play before the Eagles (1-1) used a 21-6 run to move ahead 58-38 with 7:09 to go on its way to the decision.
Hinton led the Crimson in scoring for the third straight game and has averaged 24.0 points per game through his first three collegiate games. Senior guard
Evan Nelson netted 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting while junior guard
Chandler Piggé tallied 11 points, a game-high nine rebounds, a team-high four assists, and a game-best two steals.
Harvard Highlights
- First-year guard Robert Hinton scored a game-high 19 points with six rebounds. Through his first week as a collegiate player, he averaged 24.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 58.7 percent from the field over three games.
- Senior guard Evan Nelson netted 15 points on 6-of-10 field goals and 2-of-4 3-pointers, while adding two assists. He scored in double figures for the first time this season.
- Junior guard Chandler Piggé tallied 11 points, a game-high nine rebounds, a team-high four assists, and a game-best two steals. He connected on 5-of-7 field goals and 1-of-1 3-pointers. Piggé scored in double figures for the second straight game.
- Sophomore forward Thomas Batties II added six points and three boards, first-year guard Tey Barbour chipped in four points and five boards, and first-year guard Ben Eisendrath distributed three assists.
- Harvard held advantages in points in the paint (28-22) and second-chance points (8-0).

How It Happened
- The Crimson remained within 12-11 of the Eagles at the 11:40 mark of the first half behind seven early points from Piggé, including a 3-pointer. American then used a 10-0 run to move ahead 22-11 with 8:07 left in the first half.
- Harvard trimmed the margin to five points at 30-25 with 1:49 remaining in the opening half during a stretch in which Nelson hit a pair of 3-pointers. American netted the final five points of the half to take a 35-25 lead into the locker room.
- An old-fashioned 3-point play from Nelson brought Harvard within 37-32 with 18:16 to go before American outscored Harvard 21-6 to move ahead 58-38 with 7:09 to play.
- Inside of the final seven minutes, the Crimson closed the game on a 17-9 run. Hinton netted 10 points during the closing stretch.
