HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crimson and the Bulldogs squared off in the final regular season game of the year this afternoon. The teams were fighting for the final spot in the Ivy League tournament, that would go to the victor in the matchup.
- Harvard took the opening kick and immediately worked the ball down the pitch, getting a pair of chances in the early going. Gunnluagsdottir nearly gave Harvard the early lead but put a shot just over the crossbar.
- Yale went on the counter in the next sequence and was able to sneak a shot past the Harvard defense to take an early 1-0 lead.
- After the Bulldogs goal, Rhiannon Stewart made two saves to settle things down. The Crimson began to make their move late in the second half. First, it was Lauren Muniz who took advantage of a Yale error, beating the Yale goalkeeper to the ball and dribbling around the defense before curling a difficult shot just inside the far post. The first-year's goal leveled the score at one goal apiece at the 38' mark.
- Stewart would make one more save on a Yale counterattack before Harvard once again made its move down the field.
- In the final minute of the first half, Harvard won a corner kick which was taken by Gunnlaugsdottir. The senior fed a ball into the box that was deflected by Muniz right onto the foot of Hasbo. Hasbo worked quick to wheel a shot over Yale and into the back of the net to send Harvard into the break with a 2-1 lead.
- After halftime, both teams traded chances in the early going. Yale tried to put the press on the Harvard backline, but the Crimson broke through, eventually winning a penalty kick try at the 64' mark. Gunnlaugsdottir stepped up to take the kick and rifled a shot into the right side to give Harvard a 3-1 lead.
