Women's Water Polo Opens 2024 at Home with the Bruno Classic

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's water polo is set to begin its 2024 campaign this weekend with Bruno Classic. Hosting multiple teams, the Crimson start the season with four games on tap in a busy weekend at Blodgett Pool. Opening the season with two games on Saturday against No. 15 Indiana at 10:30 a.m. and No. 20 Wagner College at 3:00 p.m. they will close out the tournament on Sunday, with La Salle University at 9:30 a.m. and Marist College at 3:30 p.m.
 
WHAT TO KNOW 
  • The Crimson checks in at No. 18 in the CWPA week-2 poll as they set out to begin another season. 
  • Looking to build upon a 23-9 season and two of the most successful campaigns in program history, Harvard returns many key players to the pool. 
  • Erin Kim and Alexis Kieckhafer return to lead the Crimson as captains. Kim, one of the team's goal scorers will look to lead on the offensive side of the pool while Kieckhafer takes over for Zoe Banks in the cage. 
  • Dany Zapata, Heidi Heffelfinger, Ruby Hodge, and Erin Kim all registered more than twenty goals last season. 
  • The Crimson fell in the CWPA championship game last season after defeating the nationally ranked Michigan Wolverines in the semi-finals. The second-place finish marks the second consecutive season the Crimson made it to the finals. 
  • Ted Minnis returns as head coach after registering his 300th win as the head coach of the women's program early last season. 
  • Last season the Crimson went 4-0 at the Bruno Classic with wins over Marist and La Salle to start the 2023 season with a strong 7-1 record. 
 
NEXT UP 
The Crimson heads to Princeton, NJ on Feb. 17-18 for the Princeton Invite. On Feb. 17, it faces No. 8 Princeton at 11:00 a.m. as well as Villanova at 3:30 p.m. Harvard closes out the invite on Feb. 18, playing La Salle once again. The first game will be streamed on ESPN+.
