DURHAM, N.C. —
Callie Hem and
Riley Campbell combined for seven goals as the Crimson narrowly fell to the Duke Blue Devils in a tightly contested, high-scoring affair on Tuesday night. Harvard came out firing in the first half, netting nine goals in the opening two-quarters of action. Returning to action on Saturday against High Point, the Crimson will play its next two games on the road before returning to Jordan Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Harvard added three goals in the opening quarter, with Stella Shea and Callie Hem finding the back of the net.
- Shea scored the first two of three Crimson goals to start the game.
- Callie Hem added another goal on a delayed penalty to level the game at four.
- Hem jump started the Crimson offense in the second quarter with her second goal in less than thirty seconds, giving Harvard the lead.
- Riley Campbell capitalized after jumping behind the defense off the draw to add another tally.
- With a 6-4 lead, Callie Hem and the Crimson power play executed a beautiful passing play.
- Annabel Child found the back of the net with a great individual effort starting from midfield.
- Campbell reached her 100th career point with her hat-trick goal, out-hustling a Blue Devil defender to fire a shot into the far corner for her 76th career goal.
- Charlotte Hodgson finished off a great feed from Riley Campbell to give the Crimson a 13-12 lead.
- Duke then scored the next three goals, handing the Crimson its first loss of the season.
NOTES:
- Callie Hem completed another first-half hat-trick, scoring three goals in less than two minutes in the second quarter and finishing the half with four goals.
- Riley Campbell has recorded hat-tricks in every game this season.
- Caroline Mullahy notched her second consecutive four-assist game, bringing her total to 27 assists in five games.
- Seven different Crimson players scored.
