No. 14 Men’s Lacrosse Falls In Battle With No. 17 Princeton, 14-11

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's lacrosse returned to Jordan Field on Saturday for the first time in nearly a month to battle the No. 17 Princeton Tigers in a highly anticipated Ivy League showdown. The Crimson (6-2, 0-2 Ivy) put up a fight in the action, eventually falling to the Tigers (5-3, 1-1 Ivy), 14-11, in a highly competitive tilt.

Sam King crossed the 50-point mark with a six-point afternoon, scoring two goals and assisting on four goals. Teddy Malone and Logan Ip each carded hat-tricks in the contest while Christian Barnard anchored the defense with 20 saves in the cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Crimson and the Tigers renewed their long-standing rivalry this afternoon at Jordan Field in Harvard's first home game in nearly a month.

  • Princeton was first on the scoreboard in the contest but was quickly matched by Harvard, who got its first goal thanks to Teddy Malone. The Crimson poured in two more quick goals to build a 3-1 lead after three-and-a-half minutes of action. Joe Dowling and Sam King added the second and third strikes, respectively. The Tigers went on a three-goal run of its own to get the lead back and go in front 4-3.
  • Both defenses stood their ground in the final eight minutes of the quarter, going stop-for-stop until Harvard broke the run with its fourth goal of the quarter, again scored by Malone. The first quarter would end with the rivals tied at four goals apiece.
  • The second quarter saw the Tigers go on a three-goal run to take a 7-4 lead into the halftime break. Barnard made six saves in the quarter to keep the Crimson alive heading into the second half.
  • Logan Ip put Harvard on his back in the third quarter, scoring back-to-back goals to open the third quarter and cut the Princeton lead to just one. Malone completed his hat-trick to score Harvard's third-straight goal and level the score at the 9:07 mark in the third quarter.
  • A two-goal Tiger run was once again squashed by the Crimson, who countered with a two-goal run of its own after goals by Graham Blake and Miles Botkiss. Botkiss's goal with 12 seconds left in the quarter sent Harvard into the final frame tied at nine.
  • Princeton put three early goals up in the fourth quarter to build a 12-9 lead at the 8:55 mark in the final frame. Logan Ip and Sam King posted back-to-back goals to make the score 12-11, but the Tigers countered with its final two goals down the stretch to seal the victory.
