CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's rugby swept the competition on Day 1 of the Tropical 7s tournament in Tampa, Fla. The Crimson Elite and Open teams played three games a piece, each winning all three to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 30th. Harvard Elite will play Army at 12:40 p.m. and Harvard Open will play Adrian at 1:40 p.m.
FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Harvard Elite
- The Crimson matched up against Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac, and LIU on the first day of action.Â
- In the game vs. Sacred Heart, Cameron fields led the team with three tries while Brogan Mior converted on two separate occasions. Harvard wins in a shutout 24-0.
- In game two, Mior, Maya Hilger, Jara Emtage-Cave, Lennox London, and Chloe Headland all scored for the Crimson, giving them the win 31-12. London earned her 50th try at Harvard, which leads the program all-time.
- Lennox began game three with another try. Headland scored the next as well as converted two-points afterwards. Ava Ference capitalized the win with the final score, winning 52-12.Â
Harvard Open
- Harvard faced off against Florida State, Coastal Carolina, and Queens University of Charlotte in the first three games of the tournament.
- In game one, Sydney Gottesman, Jordan Roe, and Charlotte Gilmour all scored tries to seal the win, 26-19.
- Gottesman scored for the second time to beginning game number two, followed by a score from Roe. Despite Coastal Carolina mounting a 14 point comeback late in the 2nd half, the Crim still edged it out 17-14.
- Elianne Sacher scored to open up the final game of the day. Carly Lehman and Jordan Roe put the Crimson up 17-0 to end Day and keep the Crimson unbeaten.
SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Harvard EliteÂ
- In the quarter-finals, Harvard defeated Army, 24-14. Fields scored two tries to start the first half off, followed by a Maya Hilger conversion each time. London closed the game out in the 2nd with a try to give Harvard a two score lead.
- The in semi-final round, Harvard matched up against conference rival Dartmouth. Harvard won by a score of 22-14 with tries from Reese Morgan, London, and Olivya Snyder.Â
- In the championship round, the Crimson faced Trinity Western, defeating them 17-7. Lennox and Morgan broke out for big scores to give Harvard the edge and the win.
Harvard Open
- Harvard began the quarterfinal vs. Adrian College with a quick score from Gilmour. Carly Lehman scored next while Roe converted. Harvard won, 17-7.
- In the semi-finals, Harvard faced Army, winning in a close match up 12-10. Tries from Lehman and Roe helped the Crimson push past its opponent.
- Harvard fell to Lander University in the final game, 19-5.
