Women's Tennis Closes Non-Conference with Tenth Straight Win, Downs UMass 4-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard women's tennis (14-2, 0-0 Ivy) non-conference slate came to a close this afternoon as the Crimson defeated UMass, 4-1.  As the Crimson head into Ivy League action, it is riding a ten-match win streak, having not fallen since facing Yale in the opening round of the ECAC Championship on February 9.  

How it Happened

The Crimson opened up action by grabbing a pair of 6-3 victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions courtesy of Holly Fischer and Stephanie Yakoff and Natalie Block and Kavya Karra, respectively.  While Rachel Arbitman and Iveta Daujotaite's match went unfinished, the duo led 5-3 at the conclusion of play.  

Moving into singles, Kate Kim quickly picked up the Crimson second victory of the day, winning her 21st match of 2023-24 by downing Campino (UMass) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Each of the Crimson three singles wins came in straight set as Holly Fischer and Sany Gawande closed out the match.  Fischer won her 14th match of the season by taking down Danielle Hack (UMass) at the No. 1 position.  After taking the first set in tiebreakers, Fischer cruised to a 6-2 second set victory.  

Sany Gawande picked up the final victory of the day, breezing past Amelia Tye (UMass), 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 5 position.  

Harvard Highlights

  • With the win, the Crimson have won its last ten matches, improving to 14-2 heading into Ivy League action.  
  • Holly Fischer and Stephanie Yakoff picked up their ninth victory of the season including eight coming in the dual season and at the No. 1 position.  
  • Kate Kim continues to lead the Crimson in singles victories, improving to 21-4 overall and 11-1 in dual action with her victory this afternoon.  
  • With her victory at the No. 1 spot, Fischer joins Yakoff with the most singles victories, improving to 14-3 on the year.

Next Up

The Crimson will begin Ivy League action next weekend on Friday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. as it travels to No. 40 Yale.  The match will serve as a rematch of the opening round of the ECAC Championship.
