Women's Lacrosse Suffers Narrow Loss to No. 18 Princeton in Overtime

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Crimson fell to Princeton in overtime 18-17 in an exciting game at Jordan Field. Harvard came out firing in the opening minutes against the nationally-ranked Princeton Tigers after netting three goals in the first five minutes on a senior day. Seniors, Riley Campbell, Callie Hem, and Maddie Barkate opened the scoring for the Crimson as Harvard went on to score eight goals in the opening quarter. 
 

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Riley Campbell opened the scoring after finding enough space on the side of the net to score the first goal of the game. 
  • Maddie Barkate and Callie Hem followed up the Campbell strike with goals of their own to give the Crimson a 3-0 lead. 
  • Princeton scored two quick goals to get back in it until Charley Meier finished off a beautiful feed from Riley Campbell to regain the two-goal lead. 
  • The Crimson scored the next four goals to take an 8-3 lead late in the first quarter as the Harvard offense was rolling. 
  • Ilana Kofman, Charley Meier, Caroline Mullahy, and Riley Campbell all finished off some great passing plays in the first quarter.
  • Princeton stormed back in the second quarter to tie the game at eight. 
  • Callie Batchelder and Caroline Mullahy scored goals late in the second quarter to keep the game tied heading into the half. 
  • Picking up where they left off at the beginning of the first half, the Crimson came out firing and battled to put up another three-goal lead after Charlotte Hodgson and Caroline Mullahy scored goals to help pad the Crimson lead. 
  • Princeton scored twice to open the fourth quarter and bring the lead back down to one. 
  • Charlotte Hodgson completed the hat-trick in the fourth quarter to give the Crimson a two-goal lead. 
  • Princeton took the lead late in the fourth quarter to take a 17-16 lead. 
  • After a Crimson timeout, Riley Campbell tied the game with less than thirty seconds to go on a great individual effort. 
  • Princeton scored on its first possession to win the game in overtime.

NEXT UP 

Harvard will play Yale in the first round of the Ivy Tournament next Friday in New Haven.
