PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard men's lacrosse earned seven placements on All-Ivy League teams as announced by the league this afternoon (May 1). Team captains
Sam King and
Andrew O'Berry both led the way by earning spots on the All-Ivy First Team, while
Logan Ip,
Collin Bergstrom and
Greg Campisi earned spots on the All-Ivy Second Team.
Christian Barnard and
Teddy Malone were also both given Honorable Mentions All-Ivy selections to round out the Crimson honor roll in 2024.
The seven individual honors are the most in a season for the Crimson since 2014 and its two First-Team selections are the most since 2016. Harvard recently completed its 2024 campaign with an 8-5 record that included a historic 6-0 start to the season, the first time the feat had been accomplished since 1990. The Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard men's lacrosse,
Gerry Byrne, and his team will now look forward to 202
5 where it returns three All-Ivy players and a host of talent that will look to guide the Crimson to more success.
Sam King – Junior – Attack – All-Ivy League First Team
Not enough can be said about the historic season King had for the Crimson in 2024. The junior stepped up his game to a whole different level leading the Crimson attack with 73 points and in the locker room as a junior captain. The 2024 Tewaaraton Award nominee earned his third career All-Ivy award – his first First-Team nod – after ranking third in the nation with 5.62 points per game. His 73 points were the third-most in a single season in Harvard men's lacrosse program history. King was also the league leader in conference goals with 20 and second with 14 assists against Ancient Eight Foes.
His talent was displayed all over the field in 2024 as King was the nation's overall stats leader in the regular season and the only player in the country to record 70-plus points, 35-plus goals, 35-plus assists and 40-plus ground balls. The Baltimore native currently sits at sixth on the Crimson career points list and will have a chance to rise up the rankings when he returns to compete with the Crimson again next Spring.
Andrew O'Berry – Senior – SSDM – All-Ivy League First Team
The first All-Ivy League selection for O'Berry came after a solid 2024 campaign for the defensive midfielder. The Gonzaga High School product was key on the faceoff wing, picking up 40 ground balls - including 20 in conference play – and contributing four points with a goal and three assists on the offensive end. The senior captain was crucial to the Harvard clear and ride units that both ranked atop the Ivy League.
O'Berry also factored in guarding the Crimson cage, regularly playing with the team's first defensive unit. O'Berry and the Harvard defense stifled opposing offenses on a number of occasions during the 2024 season. Most notably, the defense held opposing offenses to under 13 goals eight times and under 10 goals three times. A history concentrator, O'Berry is set graduate from Harvard this Spring after a terrific three-year run with the Crimson.
Logan Ip – Sophomore – Midfield – All-Ivy League Second Team
Ip made great strides in his second year with the Crimson, quickly making himself known around the league as a scoring threat. The California native totaled 20 goals in the 2024 season, the fourth most on the team, to become the leading midfield scorer. He found the back of the cage in every game this season, twice pocketing three goals in the games against Yale and Princeton.
His contributions to the team did not end on the offensive side of the field, as Ip regularly helped mark attackers on the defensive end. The placement on the Second-Team is Ip's first career All-Ivy League selection.
Collin Bergstrom – Senior – Defense – All-Ivy League Second Team
Bergstrom earned his second career All-Ivy honor and his second consecutive Second-Team nod after another great season wearing the Crimson and White. The Massachusetts native was one of Coach Byrne and Coach Grill's most trusted defenders, starting every contest in the 2024 season. Bergstrom caused chaos on the defensive side of the field, recording 12 caused turnovers and adding 14 ground balls throughout the campaign. The team captain set a new career high against Dartmouth, causing five turnovers which was the second-highest total in an NCAA game this season.
Regularly getting tasked with marking opponents' top scoring threat, Bergstrom helped shut down All-Americans and NCAA Leaders Connor Shellenberger (0 Goals), Michael Boehm (Michigan, 0 Goals), Kevin Groeninger (Bryant, 1 Goal) and Coulter Mackesy (Princeton, 1 Goal). Bergstrom will graduate from Harvard this May and go off to join the Marine Corps, where he will commission as second lieutenant after completing OCS training last Summer.
Greg Campisi – Senior – Long-Stick Midfielder – All-Ivy League Second-Team
One of the most talented and feared defenders in the Ivy League, Campisi earned his second All-Ivy League honor after another great season in Cambridge. The senior LSM contributed all over the field, helping assist the Crimson defense, clear, ride and faceoff groups in a variety of different roles. Campisi caused 16 turnovers and grabbed 23 ground balls this season to rank first and sixth on the team.
The Long Islander also set a new single game career-high this season with nine ground balls against Merrimack. Campisi also had one of the best highlights from the 2024 season against Virginia, where he picked up a ground ball and took it down field before firing a rocket into the cage to give Harvard it's 10
th goal of the game. A former All-American, Campisi's stellar Crimson career has come to an end after 37 games, three goals, 102 ground balls and 44 caused turnovers. An applied mathematics concentrator, Campisi is set to graduate from Harvard this May.
Teddy Malone – Sophomore – Attack – Honorable Mention All-Ivy League
After contributing 28 goals to a league-leading attack unit, Malone secures his first career All-Ivy League honor with a spot on the Honorable Mention list. A sophomore attack, Malone finished second on the team with 39 points after recording 28 goals and 11 assists on the campaign. A Haverford School product, Malone started every game for the Crimson this season and was a major contributor in the Crimson offensive attack.
Malone used a number of impressive performances to set new season-highs in statistic. Most notably, Malone set a new game-high by scoring five goals against Yale and Providence and had one of the best all-around games of his career at Vermont, stuffing the stat sheet with two goals, two assists, a ground ball and two caused turnovers.
Malone will be back with the Crimson for the 2025 season where he will once again team up with the likes of King and Ip to lead the Harvard attack.
Christian Barnard – Senior – Goalkeeper – Honorable Mention All-Ivy League
After a remarkable season guarding the cage for the Crimson,
Christian Barnard earned his first career All-Ivy honor, landing on the Honorable Mention list. The honor is well deserved for Barnard, who started every game for Harvard and led the team to eight wins on the season. The Connecticut native posted an 11.9 goals against average and a .507 save percentage while making 155 total saves.
Barnard shined in Ivy League play, especially, making 19 and 20 saves in back-to-back weeks against Yale and Princeton, setting new career-highs in each game. Barnard also led the Crimson to the win against No. 13 Michigan and helped hold No. 2 Virginia to 13 goals, the lowest for the team at that point in the season. An economics concentrator, Barnard is set to graduate from Harvard this May.
