Dr. Amin Farokhrani Named Head Team Physician

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Athletics has named Dr. Amin Farokhrani its Head Team Physician, Erin McDermott, The John D. Nichols '53 Family Director of Athletics, announced today.
 
"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Farokhrani to Harvard and grateful that such a first-rate and experienced team physician is joining us," McDermott said. "His experience at Northwestern servicing many different teams will be perfect for our population of student-athletes. We know that they will continue to get terrific medical care under his watch."
 
Dr. Farokhrani arrives in Cambridge from Northwestern where he served as its team physician since 2018. During his time in Evanston, Illinois, he worked with men's soccer, field hockey, men's basketball, women's lacrosse and the cheer/spirit squads.

Graduating cum laude with a degree in biomedical engineering from Michigan in 2006, Dr. Farokhrani continued his educational path in Ann Arbor the following year, earning his master's degree in engineering with a focus in biomechanics. From Michigan, Dr. Farokhrani moved 40 miles east to Wayne State, where he obtained his medical degree (2014) and completed his residency training in family medicine. During his time in Metro Detroit, Dr. Farokhrani served as both a resident and chief resident in 2017 at Ascension Crittenton Hospital. Following his stint in The Wolverine State, Dr. Farokhrani relocated to Ohio to complete his sports medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic/Lerner College of Medicine (2018) where he gained experience working at the high school, NCAA (Div. I, II, III), NBA and MLB levels.
 
In addition to working with Northwestern sport teams, Dr. Farokhrani was a Family and Community Medicine Assistant Professor and saw patients at Northwestern Medicine Student Health Services. He comes to Harvard with board certifications in both family medicine and primary care sports medicine from the American Board of Family Medicine.
