Men’s Basketball’s Hinton Wins Silver at William Jones Cup

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Men's Basketball incoming first-year Robert Hinton earned a silver medal while playing for the Chinese Taipei Blue Team, at the 2024 William Jones Cup in New Taipei, Taiwan. The tournament was held at Xinzhuang Gymnasium from July 13-21.
 
A guard from Los Angeles, California, Hinton averaged a team-high 13.4 points on 54 percent shooting, including 44 percent from three-point range, and 81 percent from the charity stripe. Hinton also added 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals over eight games at the tournament.
 
Hinton and his brother, Adam, helped the Chinese Taipei Blue Team win its first seven games by an average of 17.9 points, including an 82-76 win over Future Sports USA and a 97-80 decision over BSBL Guardians (Australia), which sent the Chinese Taipei Blue Team to the championship game against Strong Group Athletics (Philippines).
 
With the 2024 William Jones Cup on the line, Hinton and his team found themselves trailing at halftime, 41-34. Over the final half, however, the Chinese Taipei Blue Team rallied to knot the score at 73 at the end of regulation, but fell short in overtime, 83-79. Hinton in the final finished with a team-best 16 points, marking his fourth tournament outing with at least 15 points.
 
Hinton, a 2024 first-team All-CIF performer at Harvard-Westlake School in Southern California, is part of a seven-player Class of 2028, which is set to arrive in Cambridge ahead of the upcoming Fall 2024 semester.
