CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Harvard women's rugby dominated its first game of the 2024 fall season with a decisive 106-0 victory over Mount Saint Mary's.
Twelve different student-athletes scored tries on Saturday against the Mountaineers. Junior
Lennox London and sophomore
Courtney Taylor led the team with one hat trick each. Junior
Olyvia Snyder and senior
Carly Lehman also scored twice. First-years
Josephine Mignone and
Dana Greer made their mark with their first career Harvard tries.
HOW IT HAPPENED
London scored the Crimson's first try of the season early in the first half. Taylor followed shortly after, set up by a kick from senior Chloe Headland that advanced the team downfield. Junior Olyvia Snyder added another try, coming off the edge.
Lehman, the senior co-captain, broke tackles on both of her try-scoring runs. Fellow senior captain Sofia Hilger also scored, thanks to a well-placed pass from junior Tiahna Padilla.
Nafanua Malietoa Fitisemanu made an impressive debut in 2024 with a try after a significant run downfield. Padilla, a 2023 MA Sorensen Award finalist, scored her first try of the season as well. London, Snyder, and Taylor continued their strong performances with additional tries.
Sophomore
Maya Hilger and junior
Eva Rankin joined the scoring with tries of their own. Rankin powered through after a dynamic run involving several Crimson ball carriers.
First-years Mignone and Greer rounded out the scoring, contributing their own tries. Harvard closed out the game with a commanding win, finishing with a margin of over 100 points for the first time 2022 (Sept. 24 vs. Princeton).
