PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior goalkeeper
Lucian Wood made a career-high nine saves, but Harvard University men's soccer fell at Princeton University, 2-0, in its Ivy League opener on Saturday afternoon at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
Playing in the final game of a five-match road swing, the Crimson (0-3-3, 0-1-0 Ivy) remained within 1-0 late in the second half before the host Tigers (3-3-0, 1-0-0 Ivy) added a second goal inside the final 20 minutes.
Wood tallied four saves in the first half and five stops in the second half while Princeton netted goals in the 2
nd and 73
rd minutes.
Harvard Highlights
- Sophomore goalkeeper Lucian Wood made a career-high nine saves with four stops in the first half and five saves in the second half. His previous career high came when he tallied seven saves at Marquette during the 2023 season.
- Among the Crimson's field players, seniors Jan Riecke and Ludovico Rollo and sophomore Andreas Savva all played the full 90 minutes.
- Sophomore Dylan Teallado posted a team-high two shots.
- Harvard held advantages in corner kicks (6-4) and possession time (58-42) in the match.
How It Happened
- Princeton opened the scoring in the 2nd minute as Daniel Ittycheria tallied a goal at the 1:32 mark.
- Junior goalkeeper Lucian Wood saved all four of Princeton's other shots on goal over the remainder of the first half as Harvard remained within 1-0 of the Tigers.
- The Crimson generated multiple chances in the early stages of the second half as sophomore Andreas Savva created a threatening opportunity before senior Marko Isakovic challenged the goalkeeper to make a full-extension save on a long-distance shot.
- The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the 73rd minute behind a goal from Will Francis at the 72:56 mark.
- Wood totaled five saves in the second half, including three stops inside the final quarter hour.
