No. 10 Field Hockey Blanks Brown On The Road

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  Two first half goals and two second half goals made the difference in No. 10 Harvard field hockey's 4-0 shutout win against Brown on the road. With the victory at Goldberger Family Field, the Crimson extend its winning streak to four matches.

Juniors Kate Oliver and Fiene Oerlemans recorded goals in the first half, as sophomores Lara Beekhuis and Sage Piekarski extended the Crimson advantage in the fourth quarter. For a second consecutive match, four different Crimson put their names on the scoresheet. Harvard's attack produced 18 shots in the match against the Bears.

Junior goalkeeper Tessa Shahbo orchestrated an excellent showing between the posts, posting the Crimson's third shutout of the season with four saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Crimson (6-1, 2-0 Ivy League) and hosts traded possession in the opening moment of the match, as Brown (2-5, 1-1 Ivy League) created the first chance of the game. After a shifty move down the byline, Brown's Imogen Govan fired a shot towards goal, as Shahbo denied the chance with a save.

In the final moments of the first quarter, Harvard's attack created the opening goal of the contest. On the Crimson's third corner of the match, Oerlemans tapped in a rebound in front of net, 1-0. A two-time NFHCA All-American, junior Bronte-May Brough finished the match with two assists, tying her career-high.

Harvard dictated the action in the first period, recording five shots with three of them on goal. The Crimson's backline limited chances and possession for the hosts, holding the Bears to a pair of shots in the opening 15 minutes.

Halfway through the second quarter, the Crimson doubled its advantage. First-Year forward Emily Bronckers maneuvered past multiple defenders in the attacking half, finding Oliver in the circle in the process. Oliver collected the pass and fired an excellent shot into the left corner of the net, 2-0. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Oliver extended her scoring streak to three matches, the longest scoring run for a Crimson this season.

After the first 30 minutes, the Crimson attack generated seven shots, as the defense continued to shine, holding Brown to just one shot in the second quarter.

With around four minutes to go in the third quarter, Shahbo preserved the Crimson's shutout, denying Brown a goal with an impressive kick save. A native of Surrey, England, Shahbo excelled in the third quarter, logging three saves.

Two more Harvard goals arrived in the fourth quarter. On a corner opportunity, the feed from first-year midfielder Martha le Huray found Beekhuis at the top of the circle, as the Crimson's leading scorer netted her fifth goal of the season with a sensational long range effort, 3-0. Moments later, Brough launched a rapid pass into the circle, as Piekarski redirected the pass into the net, 4-0.

The match concluded with Harvard taking 18 shots, 13 of them on goal. The Crimson's defense of Brough, junior Marie Schaefers, and sophomore Smilla Klas held Brown scoreless, as the hosts only took six shots across 60 minutes of action.
