Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Harvard Comes Up Short in Overtime Against Dartmouth

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Another strong effort from the Crimson came up just short this afternoon after falling in overtime to Dartmouth after a thriller at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center. The Crimson (2-11-1, 1-10-0 ECAC) still earned a point in a contest against the Big Green (2-14-0, 1-10-0 ECAC). The action was the first game in the home-and-home series that will continue tomorrow afternoon at Thompson Arena in Hanover, N.H.

Brooke Manning and Mia Biotti each registered their first goals of the season to lead the charge offensively for the Crimson.

How it Happened

The Crimson and the Big Green reignited their Ivy League rivalry this afternoon at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center as the Crimson returned to action for the second half of the 2024-25 season. A pregame ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of Ivy League women's hockey kicked off the action, featuring Laurie White Ensley, a former Crimson women's hockey player and mother of current junior forward Sophie Ensley.

Both teams came out firing to start the action, combining for 11 shots on goal in the opening five minutes. Dartmouth was the first to find the back of the net, scoring just under two minutes into the game to claim an early 1-0 lead. The Crimson quickly responded with Brooke Manning finding the back of the net on a 2-on-1 rush. Manning's first goal of the season, assisted by Antonina Dinges and Kaley MacDonald, evened the score.

A fast-paced first period ended with both teams registering 11 shots. Despite a late powerplay opportunity for the Crimson, the defenses held firm, and the period ended with the score tied at 1-1.

Harvard dominated much of the second frame, keeping the puck in the offensive zone and generating scoring opportunities, including a powerplay that saw the Crimson register a trio of scoring looks. With just 18 seconds remaining in the period, Mia Biotti delivered a clutch go-ahead goal. Reacting quickly to a bouncing puck near the crease, she slotted it past the Dartmouth goalie, giving the Crimson a 2-1 advantage heading into the final period.

The Big Green came out strong in the third, applying pressure and controlling play during the first seven minutes. Harvard's defense, led by six blocked shots and seven key saves from goalie Emily Davidson, held firm against the Big Green advance. Despite several counterattacks, the Crimson couldn't capitalize on their chances. Dartmouth finally broke through with the equalizer 12 minutes into the period. Despite their best efforts, neither team could find the decisive goal in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

Overtime began with a disadvantage for the Crimson, who took a late penalty in the third period. Dartmouth seized the opportunity, scoring the game-winning goal less than a minute into the extra frame.
