CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Women's water polo is set to begin the 2025 season this weekend with the Bruno Classic. In a busy weekend at Blodgett Pool, Harvard will host 10 games over the weekend to kick off the season.
Opening the year with a Saturday doubleheader, the Crimson will play LIU tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. before finishing the day with Wagner College at 4:00 p.m. The Crimson will close the weekend with Indiana at 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning before playing Redlands at 1:00 p.m. All games from the weekend will be streamed on ESPN+.
WHAT TO KNOW
- Harvard opens the season coming in at No. 20 in the most recent ACWPC poll while coming in at No. 19 in the CWPA weekly poll.
- Last season, the Crimson went 2-2 to open the season at the Bruno Classic after falling to No. 16 Indiana and No. 20 Wagner on day one.
- Harvard bounced back on Sunday against La Salle after Maya O'Dea netted a buzzer beater to deliver the Crimson its first win of the season.
- Harvard will play two ranked opponents in the first day of the season for the second year in a row after hosting No. 25 LIU and No. 19 Wagner on Saturday.
- Harvard has not played LIU since 2023 when it defeated the Sharks 13-9 in the final game of the Bruno Classic.
- The Crimson will then play No. 12 Indiana on Sunday in the first of two games this season.
- Harvard dropped the home opener last season against the Hoosiers by a score of 17-10.
- Top scorers Maya O'Dea, Ruby Hodge, and Emma Gilbert return this season, having combined for 142 of Harvard's 305 goals last year.
- Senior Erin Kim returns as captain, joined by junior Ella Schneider, who was named a captain in the offseason.
- Rounding out the group are first-years Orli Cooper and Niki Piovan, who both competed in the U18 Water Polo World Championships in the fall.
