Zhang Finishes in the Top Spot at Quinnipiac Classic; Women’s Golf Takes Third

WALLINGFORD, Conn. – In a tournament that was impacted by severe weather, Harvard women's golf battled the elements to post a series of impressive results at the 2025 Quinnipiac Classic. The Crimson battled at The Farms Country Club, coming in third place as a team with a tournament score of 613 (+37). Sophomore Vanessa Zhang continued to impress with a 36-hole score of 213 (-1) to claim the top spot in the field and win the individual championship by six strokes. It was Zhang's first victory of the 2025 season and second overall in her young career.

How It Happened

The third tournament of the Fall season took the Crimson down I-84 to Connecticut to The Farms Country Club where it competed in the Quinnipiac Classic for the second year in a row. The team was looking to build off a strong finish at the Princeton Invitational last week as it heads into the final stretch of its Fall season. Vanessa Zhang, Lucy Yuan, Iris Wang, Bonnie Zhai and Dixon Hill made up the Crimson starting five for the second tournament in a row.

The first round of the tournament began on a rainy Monday morning in southern Connecticut, with the elements creating difficult course conditions. The team was only able to get in around 11 holes of the first round before play was suspended due to weather. In those holes, however, Vanessa Zhang and the Crimson began to make their move, positioning the team in the top five. After first round play was completed on Tuesday morning, Zhang was positioned in the top spot on the leaderboard and the Crimson in third. Zhang's even par round of 72 was the best in the field by two strokes and was followed by Iris Wang (78, +6), Lucy Yuan (80, +8), Sophie Lim (83, +11) and Dixon Hill (83, +11) who were all in the top 35 after 18 holes of play. Harvard posted a team score of 313 (+25) in the first round and found itself in third place heading into round two.

Harvard continued to perform in the second round on Tuesday with Zhang leading the charge. The sophomore posted a round of 71 (-1) in her second round, the lowest round score in the tournament and the only individual round posted that was under par. Yuan fought back with a second-round score of 74 (+2) to move herself into the top 10 individually. Wang's 77 (+5) and Hill's 78 (+6) gave Harvard a second-round total of 300 (+12), which secured third place for the team.

At the conclusion of play, Zhang's tournament score of 213 (-1) would prove to be the best in the field and help her earn her first tournament victory of the 2025 season. Yuan collected her second top 10 finish by coming in T8 with a score of 154 (+10). Wang finished just outside the top 10 in T11 with a score of 155 (+11).
