AMHERST, Mass. - Harvard women's basketball (1-2) fell to in-state rival, the University of Massachusetts (3-0), 68-55, at the Mullins Center Tuesday evening.
How it Happened
Harvard opened the game with energy on both ends of the floor, using threes from
Karlee White and
Nina Emnace to take an early lead. The Crimson shot 43 percent in the frame and closed the quarter with a 17–13 advantage after a late three pointer from Saniyah Glenn.
The Crimson continued to build momentum in the second, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities from nine offensive rebounds in the quarter.
Mary Hollensteiner provided a lift off the bench, connecting on a pair of threes to help Harvard outscore UMass 12–9 and enter halftime with a 29–22 lead.
UMass came out firing after the break, hitting three shots from deep to close in on Harvard's lead. Despite threes from White and Hollensteiner, the Crimson were outscored 20–15 in the quarter and saw its lead trimmed to 44–42 heading into the fourth.
The Minutewomen used the momentum built from the third down the stretch, shooting 50 percent from the field and converting at the free-throw line to seal the win. Harvard continued to battle with
Alayna Rocco,
Abigail Wright, and
Gabby Anderson chipping in buckets late, but UMass outscored the Crimson 26–11 in the final frame to close out the contest, 68-55.

Next Up
The Crimson will remain on the road and travel to the West Coast next weekend to compete in the B.A.R. Invitational. Harvard will first face Oakland University on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT. If the Crimson defeat Oakland, they will advance to the championship to face the winner of Charlotte vs. California; otherwise, they will play the loser in a consolation matchup.
