Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Narrowly Falls to South Florida at Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Harvard women's basketball (3-5) narrowly fell to South Florida (4-3), 56-54, in its final game of the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship.

How it Happened

The game opened as a back-and-forth battle with the lead switching hands on five different occasions.  A triple from the Bulls with just 30 seconds left on the clock gave the two-point advantage to South Florida after 10 minutes.

The two teams remained neck-and-neck into the second quarter but a 12-3 Harvard run beginning at the 4:55 mark gave Harvard distance and its largest lead of the night at seven.  South Florida scored the final four points of the half off free throws and a buzzer-beating jumper to cut the Harvard lead to three heading into the locker room.

Out of the break, the Crimson again pushed its lead to seven and held that advantage as late as the 5:56 mark following an Alayna Rocco three.  Harvard foul trouble began to aid the Bulls, however, as five made free throws cut the Crimson's lead to two.  A Bulls layup then tied the contest with 16 seconds remaining in the third.  Two of its own makes from the charity stripe however put Harvard back in front to close the frame.

The first seven minutes of the final quarter produced seven ties as each team responded to its opponents offensive strikes.  A Bulls free throw at the 2:03 mark ultimately gave South Florida a lead that it would never again relinquish.  Katie Krupa snuck a clutch triple to pull the Crimson within two but last second attempts for the Crimson were unsuccessful and the Bulls stole the contest, 56-54.
