Men’s Soccer Rallies Past Dartmouth, 3-1, Clinches Ivy Tournament Berth

HANOVER, N.H. – Junior Dylan Tellado, first-year Adam Poliakov, and junior Andreas Savva each scored a goal in the second half as Harvard University men's soccer beat Dartmouth College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Burnham Field in the regular season finale for both teams.
 
Facing a 1-0 deficit at halftime after the hosts scored in the 45th minute, the Crimson (6-5-5, 2-3-2 Ivy) scored goals in the 48th, 68th, and 72nd minutes to rally past the Big Green (3-8-3, 2-5-0 Ivy).
 
With the win, coupled with a Yale victory over Brown, Harvard vaulted into fourth place in the Ivy League standings with eight points, clinching the No. 4 seed in the tournament. No. 4 seed Harvard will face No. 1 seed Princeton on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium in Princeton, New Jersey in the semifinals of the Ivy League Tournament.
 
Tellado netted an equalizer in the 48th minute on his fourth goal of the season, Poliakov recorded the game-winning goal in the 68th minute with his fifth goal over his last five games, and Savva scored an insurance tally in the 72nd minute, lifting his team-leading point total to 13 points on the year. Poliakov and Savva each posted three points in the match with a goal and an assist apiece.

Harvard Highlights

  • First-year Adam Poliakov tallied three points on a goal and an assist, while scoring his second game-winning goal of the year. He has netted five goals in the season with all five goals coming over his last five matches. Poliakov leads the Crimson with five goals on the year.
  • Poliakov registered both of Harvard's game-winning goals in Ivy League play. He notched his second game this season with three or more points alongside his brace against Brown (Oct. 18). In conference play, Poliakov led Harvard in points (nine) and goals (four).
  • Junior Andreas Savva totaled three points on a goal and an assist, marking his second game this season with three or more points and fourth contest in his career with three or more points. Savva paces the Crimson with 13 points on the season behind four goals and five assists. For his career, he now has seven goals, seven assists, and 21 points.
  • Junior Dylan Tellado scored his fourth goal of the season and his 11th career goal. He now has 11 points on the season and 26 points in his career.
  • Senior goalkeeper Cullen MacNeil made one save in the win and improved to 4-3-2 on the season.
  • Among the Crimson's field players, senior defender Rustin Khosravi and sophomore center backs Alexander Castel and Tim Langenbahn all played the full 90 minutes.
  • For the match, Harvard led in shots (15-7), shots on goal (4-2), and corner kicks (6-2).

How It Happened

  • In the first half, The Crimson held advantages in shots (5-2) and corner kicks (3-0) with Poliakov tallying three shots in the stanza with attempts in the 12th, 19th, and 27th minutes.
  • Dartmouth's Olly Spicer scored off a free kick in the 45th minute with his shot from just outside the penalty area deflecting into the goal.
  • Tellado brought the Crimson level with the Big Green at 1-1 in the 48th minute. After junior Andreas Savva sent in a cross and sophomore Shane Lonergan attempted a shot, Tellado capitalized on a rebound opportunity, knocking a shot into the back of the net from the edge of the six-yard box.
  • Poliakov scored the game-winning goal in the 68th minute, pushing Harvard ahead 2-1 with a lead it would not relinquish. After Poliakov forced a turnover, Savva carried the ball into the attacking before sending a pass to the right side to Poliakov, who buried a shot into the left corner of the goal.
  • Savva extended the margin to 3-1 with a goal in the 72nd minute. After Poliakov settled a pass in the center of the pitch, he sent a pass out wide to Savva, who slid a shot past the goalkeeper from inside the penalty area.
