CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Yesterday afternoon
Melchior Delloye of Harvard men's tennis pulled out a gritty win (4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5)) over Felipe Pinzon (Cornell) to advance to the quarterfinals at the ITA East Sectional Championship.
Delloye fell in the opening set, 6-4 but bounced back and fought through the next two sets to steal the match.
The Crimson sophomore recorded 7-5 results in tiebreakers in each of the next two sets to narrowly defeat the fellow Ivy League foe.
Delloye will now take on Paul Barbier Gazeu (South Carolina) in Chapel Hill this afternoon with a spot in the NCAA Individual Championships on the line.
In the consolation draw,
Nathan Blokhin continued the hot start to his first year of collegiate tennis and defeated the No. 25 nationally ranked singles player, Noa Vukadin (Clemson). Blokhin won the first set 6-3 and then pulled out a 13-11 victory in the third set tiebreaker.
