SPARKS, Md. – Women's lacrosse jumped out to an early lead but couldn't hang on against Drexel on Friday night as the Crimson dropped its first game of the season.
The Crimson outshot Drexel 35-21 and won the draw control battle 15-14, but the Dragons capitalized on key scoring opportunities, led by Anna Gragnani's eight-goal performance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Harvard opened the scoring when
Tori Balser converted on a free-position shot.
Hannah Shiels and
Charley Meier followed the Balser goal with two of their own to push the Crimson lead to 3-1.
The Mullahy duo then added two more goals for the Crimson to help lead Harvard to a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Drexel stormed back in the second quarter, outscoring Harvard 6-4 to cut the Crimson lead to 9-7 at halftime.
Drexel scored four times in the third quarter which led to their first lead of the game.
Despite goals from
Nicole Giannakopoulos and
Callie Batchelder in the final quarter, Drexel pulled away with two more goals from Gragnani, including the game-clincher as
