CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's volleyball (4-5, 2-1 EIVA) continued EIVA play against Sacred Heart University (3-6, 0-5 EIVA) with a dominant 3-0 sweep this evening.
How it Happened
The Crimson came out swinging, taking an early lead 6-2 on the Pioneers. From there, the Crimson maintained its advantage throughout the entire first set, not giving SHU any opportunities to overtake them. After collecting five of the final seven points, the Crimson closed out the first set 25-17.
The dominance continued into the second, with the Crimson collecting the first three points and following it up by catapulting ahead 10-1. Led by its strong defensive effort the Crimson would hold the Pioneers to single digits and close the set 25-9.
Harvard dominated the floor all the way through the third set, once again, leaving Sacred Heart's opportunity for points very small. The Crimson took a commanding 11 point lead as the third frame continued, ultimately wrapping up the match 25-15 to secure the sweep.
Harvard Highlights
- Harvard racked up a total of 32 kills, led by Logan Shepherd (11) and Sawyer Nichols (10) who each surpassed double figures while hitting over .375.
- As a team, the Crimson ended with a hitting percentage of .354 while conversely holding the Pioneers to a negative hitting percentage (-.024).
- James Bardin provided all-around play for the Crimson, leading in assists (24) and aces (four), while also totaling three blocks and eight digs.
- Owen Fanning led the defensive effort with six blocks, followed by Logan Shepherd with five. In total, the Crimson record 12 total blocks.
- Four Crimson, including Fanning, Bardin, Zach Berty, and Thomas Phung each recorded at least seven digs in the contest.
