Women's Water Polo

No. 19 Women’s Water Polo Tops No. 13 Princeton 7-6 in Crimson Classic

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 19 Harvard women's water polo (5-1, 1-0 Ivy) edged out No. 13 Princeton (4-1, 1-1 Ivy) with a 7-6 victory. The Crimson remain perfect at the Crimson Classic, now 2-0, and will face LIU at 2:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
 

Harvard's offense got off to a quick start as sophomore attacker Maya O'Dea scored just one minute into the first period, tying the game. In the second quarter, senior center Kaity Greenwald cut Princeton's lead to 3-2 with a goal at 1:50.
 

Harvard's defense stepped up in the second half. Sophomore center defender Emma Gilbert scored to bring the Crimson even at 3-3, and O'Dea put Harvard ahead with her second goal of the day. Junior Nikki Piovan extended the lead to 6-3 before O'Dea capped the scoring with a seventh goal six minutes into the fourth quarter. Princeton managed a response at the 4-minute mark but could not close the gap.
 

O'Dea finished with four goals, bringing her total to six over the last two games of the Crimson Classic. The win marked Harvard's first over Princeton since 2022 and handed the Tigers their first loss of the season.

The victory also marked Harvard's second consecutive ranked win, improving the Crimson's record to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Crimson Classic.
