CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Women's water polo won all four games at the Crimson Classic this weekend after an 11-8 win over No. 11 UC San Diego on Sunday morning.
Defeating four straight ranked opponents for the first time in program history, the Crimson improve to 7-1 after wins over No. 15 UC Santa Barbara, No. 13 Princeton, No. 24 LIU, and No. 11 UC San Diego.
To open the season the Crimson have defeated six ranked opponents, the most over any seven-game stretch in program history.
The Crimson played great defense all weekend, holding its opponents to 10 goals or under in all four games at the Crimson Classic.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Emma Gilbert opened the scoring after being left alone in the slot for an early Crimson lead.
- Heidi Heffelfinger followed that up with a strong move to give the Crimson a quick two-goal lead.
- UC San Diego fought back to tie the game at two before Gilbert netted her second of the game in the second quarter to regain the lead.
- Tied at four with seven seconds to go, Kaity Greenwald scored her first goal as well to hand the Crimson a lead heading into the break – a lead that the Crimson would never let go for the remainder of the game.
- Emma Gilbert completed her hat-trick coming out of the break on the first Crimson possession.
- Heidi Heffelfinger finished the game with four points after two goals and two assists.
- Emma Gilbert also added four points in the win with three goals and one assist.
- Erin Kim picked up a goal and added two more helpers.
- Niki Piovan netted a pair of goals.
- Orli Cooper made 11 stops in a stellar morning in goal. The first-year made six stops in the first quarter.

The Crimson will have a weekend off before hosting Saint Francis, Bucknell, and Michigan in its first CWPA weekend of the season on Feb. 22.
