CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's basketball (20-4, 9-3 Ivy) was tripped up by Princeton (19-6, 10-2 Ivy), 70-58, this evening in the first half of this weekend's back-to-back.
How it Happened
The Crimson struck first with a steal and a basket on the opening possession, but the Tigers went on to rattle off the next eight points. Princeton continued to push, building its lead out to 13-4.
Saniyah Glenn-Bello gave the Crimson energy, midway through the frame, notching eight straight points to lessen the deficit to six.
Katie Krupa followed with back-to-back buckets off the bench, but a Princeton shot in the final seconds of the frame set the Tigers' lead at 22-16.
After cutting the deficit back to four, the Tigers responded with a six-point swing to go back up by double digits, an advantage it would consistently hold throughout the frame. Princeton's sharpshooting proved to be the difference in the first half, shooting 70% from the field to lead 40-29 heading into the locker room.
The third quarter would be the lowest scoring stanza for either team, hindering Harvard from staging its second-half comeback.
With the Tigers' lead at 57-42 at the 7:46 mark, Harvard began its battle back.
Harmoni Turner recorded nine points to lead a 12-3 run over the next four minutes of play. Despite its increasing momentum, the Crimson could not cut the deficit below six points and ultimately dropped the contest, 70-58.
