WORCESTER, Mass. –
Tori Balser and
Charley Meier each added their first career hat tricks as Harvard defeated Holy Cross 12-7 on Tuesday evening The Crimson used a strong second half, outscoring the Crusaders by a score of 6-2, to lift the Crimson to its fourth victory of the season.
Harvard outshot Holy Cross 39-22 and dominated the ground ball game 19-12, while goalkeeper
Lizzie Francioli made 12 saves in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Charley Meier opened the scoring just over 30 seconds into the game off an assist from Charlotte Hodgson.
- After Holy Cross took a 2-1 lead, Grace Mullahy and Callie Batchelder responded with goals to give Harvard a 3-2 edge at the end of the first quarter.
- The teams traded goals in the second quarter, with Batchelder, Caroline Mullahy, and Meier all finding the back of the net for the Crimson.
- The Crimson led 6-5 at the half.
- Tori Balser extended the lead early in the third quarter before Holy Cross answered to cut it back to one. Meier's second goal of the game made it 8-6 heading into the final frame.
- Harvard took control in the fourth quarter, scoring four times, including two free-position goals from Balser.
- Stella Shea and Hodgson sealed the victory with late insurance markers.
- Caroline Mullahy led the team with four assists and a goal for a total of five points, while Balser added one assist to go along with her hat trick for a total of four points.
- Stella Shea and Caroline Mullahy combined for eight grounds balls after recording four a piece.
