Clarkson Takes Game 1 of ECAC Quarterfinals

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Mick Thompson and Ian Moore both found the back of the net in game one of the ECAC quarterfinals, but a Golden Knights goal in the dying seconds lifted Clarkson to a 3-2 win on Friday night at Cheel Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mick Thompson opened the scoring in the first period after a pass in the slot from Casey Severo found the Ivy League Player of the Year wide open for an early lead. Thompson beat the Golden Knights netminder for his 13th of the season.

The Crimson PK unit killed off a penalty to Mason Langenbrunner in the first period and carried the 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Harvard was awarded its first power play of the game in the second period but was unable to capitalize despite some good looks from the first unit.

Mason Langenbrunner was sent to the box again at the end of the second in a penalty that carried over into the start of the third with the Crimson still holding a one-goal lead.

Clarkson knotted the game at one on the power play in the third period, setting up a 1-1 game with almost a period to play.

Ian Moore converted on the second power play attempt for Harvard after a shot through traffic gave the Crimson a 2-1 lead.

Clarkson tied the game yet again less than a minute after the Ian Moore goal and then took the lead with 30 seconds left in regulation.
