Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men’s Volleyball Falls to No. 6 BYU, 3-1

PROVO, UT – Harvard men's volleyball (6-9, 4-2 EIVA) fell 3-1 in a nationally ranked battle against No. 6 BYU (14-6, 2-2 MPSP) in Provo, Utah this evening.

How it Happened

The Crimson came out ready to battle in the opening set, looking to even the series after falling in three sets this past Saturday.  Harvard built an early 5-3 in the first set, but the Cougars continued to battle to not allow the deficit to become unmanageable.  The two teams were tied 10 times through the first 22 points before BYU used a 4-0 scoring run to gain its first significant advantage.  Harvard, however, continued to fight, and its own 5-0 run turned the lead back in its favor at 20-17.  The Crimson fended off the Cougars for the remainder of the frame to win, 25-21.

BYU bounced back to even the match with a strong 25-14 win in the second set.  The Cougars powered past the Crimson in opening points, growing a 9-2 lead early.  BYU continued to control the set to tie the match at one-all.

Determined to pull back in front, the Crimson went up early at 8-7 and continued to hold a lead late into the stanza at 17-16.  The two teams sat tied at 20-all after back-and-forth play throughout the entirety of the set but a 5-0 closing run helped the Cougars steal the set, 25-20.

Harvard continued to battle throughout the fourth set, looking to force a fifth against the ranked foe.  Despite the Cougars building an 11-8 lead in the middle of the frame, the Crimson regrouped, creating several ties beginning at 14-14 following a 4-0 run.  From that point on, Harvard tied the contest five more times but was unable to successfully pull in front.  The Cougars secured the match by taking five of the final six points, winning the fourth set 25-21.
