How it Happened
Riding a 6-0 run in the middle of the frame, Harvard was able to pull ahead, 13-9, in the first set to grab early momentum in the match. Harvard's lead was enough for the remainder of the frame. While collecting four of the last five points, the Crimson were able to move ahead 1-0 in the match.
Despite Charleston gaining several advantages in the opening portion of the second set, Harvard was able to rally, forcing multiple ties. After evening the score at 11-all however, the Golden Eagles rattled off five straight points to take control of the frame. The home team would continue to push further ahead and ultimately even the match with a 25-17 second set.
The Golden Eagles again used a mid-set run to pull ahead, taking a 12-8 to force a Harvard timeout. Out of the break, the Crimson bounced back, tallying four straight points to tie the contest. The set would remain a back-and-forth affair but a three-point swing for Charleston would allow them to create enough distance late in the set to steal it, 25-23.
Poised to force a fifth set, Harvard started strong in the fourth. The Crimson started the frame with a 5-1 lead and later extended its advantage to 10-5. Harvard would hold the lead for the entirety of the set, going up by as many as 10. The Golden Eagles would fight off three set points but the Crimson's lead proved too large to overcome.
