10 Crimson Qualify for 2025 NCAA Fencing Championships at NCAA Northeast Regional Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – At the 2025 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, Harvard fencing shined and dominated against a competitive field of competition, as 10 student-athletes qualified for the 2025 NCAA Fencing Championships in State College later this month. Several Crimson are also awaiting the NCAA to award at-large bids as well.

The Crimson were well represented on the podium at the 2025 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, showcasing their skill and endurance throughout the day. First-Year Jenna Shoman won gold in women's saber competition in definitive fashion, excelling with a 19-4 record. Sophomore Kaitlyn Pak stood out with a second place finish in women's saber, as first-year Yasmine Khamis also earned silver medal honors in women's epee competition. A two-time Olympic medalist, senior Lauren Scruggs captured second in women's foil.

The women's epee competition saw a pair of Crimson qualify for the NCAA Fencing Championships. With a 19-8 record in her regionals debut, Khamis punched her tickets with a second place finish, collecting a +45 indicator in the process. Fellow classmate Sarah Gu was also phenomenal in women's epee, finishing in fourth with a 19-8 mark to go along with an impressive +26 indicator.

Both Khamis and Gu outperformed their pre-tournament seeds. Gu entered the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships as the No.6 seed, while Khamis held the No. 8 spot before the start of competition.

The No. 1 and No. 3 seeds in women's foil heading into Sunday, both Scruggs and Guo showcased their incredible skills. With a phenomenal 20-3 record and a dominant +52 indicator, Scruggs finished in second place. The defending NCAA Women's Foil National Champion, Guo took sixth with a 19-4 mark and a +40 indicator.

Three Crimson on the women's saber squad qualified for NCAA Fencing Championships with top-nine finishes at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships. Shoman was sensational in her regionals debut, as the first-year took home the gold medal in women's saber action. A native of Short Hills, New Jersey, Shoman ended the day with a stellar 19-4 record and a staggering +59 indicator. Another Crimson making their regionals debut, Pak won silver in women's saber, qualifying for the NCAA Fencing Championships with a 17-6 record and a +42 indicator. First-Year Madison Duckett rounded out Harvard's qualifiers in women's saber, taking eighth place with a 18-9 mark, along with a +33 indicator. Due to NCAA rules, only two-of-the-three qualifiers in women's saber will be a part of the Crimson's 2025 NCAA Fencing Championships roster.

Shoman, Pak, and Duckett all outperformed their pre-tournament seeds at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships. Winning gold, Shoman was the No. 6 heading into competition, while Pak, the silver medal winner, was the No. 10 seed. Finishing in eighth place, Duckett was the No. 15 seed before fencing began on Sunday.

A pair of Harvard student-athletes clinched their spots to the NCAA Fencing Championships in men's epee action. An All-American First Team honoree last season, sophomore Henry Lawson finished in sixth place after ending the day with a 17-6 record and a +27 indicator, while first-year Nicholas Zhang finished in seventh place with a 15-8 mark and a +24 indicator.

Entering the tournament as the No. 12 seed, first-year Andrew Chen battled against tough competition throughout the day. A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Chen outperformed his pre-tournament position, finishing in fifth in men's foil to earn a spot at the 2025 NCAA Fencing Championships.

Throughout four rounds of pool action, Chen collected a 13-10 record and a +13-touch differential.
