ITHACA, N.Y. – No. 22 women's lacrosse couldn't complete a late comeback and fell to Cornell by a score of 13-12, Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field. The Crimson were led by
Caroline Mullahy's seven-point outing and a hat trick from
Callie Batchelder but couldn't overcome a scoreless third quarter.
Down three goals in the fourth quarter, Harvard tied and took the lead at 12-11 before Cornell stormed back to win the game.
Harvard started strong with five goals in the opening quarter and carried a 7-7 tie into halftime. After falling behind 11-7 in the third, the Crimson surged back in the fourth with five goals, but Cornell held on in the closing minutes with another two goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Harvard opened the game with a fast-paced offensive showing, scoring five times in the first quarter. The Crimson received goals from five different scorers, including
Charley Meier and
Grace Mullahy.
Cornell matched the intensity, tallying four goals in the first quarter and three more in the second to pull even at 7-7 by halftime.
The Big Red dominated the third quarter, outscoring Harvard 3-0, including a shorthanded goal and a pair of even-strength tallies to take an 11-7 lead.
Harvard battled back in the fourth behind two goals from Batchelder and additional markers from
Stella Shea,
Charley Meier, and
Caroline Mullahy.
Cornell added two more goals in the fourth, including the eventual game-winner with under a minute to play.
