NEWARK, NJ – Harvard men's volleyball fell short against NJIT in the final regular season match of the season, dropping the contest, 3-1.
How it Happened
Looking to bounce back after being swept the previous day the Crimson gained an early 10-7 advantage following a 3-0 run. NJIT regrouped, however, using its own 4-0 scoring run to pull in front, 15-13. The Crimson would tie the contest several times down the stretch but was never able to pull back in front fully. A dominant 5-0 Highlanders run would ultimately seal the first set at 25-19.
Harvard continued its early set successes, gaining a 7-4 advantage as it looked to even the contest. The Crimson's three-point lead would be the largest for either team as the two battled back-and-forth for the remainder of the set. The Highlanders would eventually pull out another win, stealing the second set, 25-23.
Battling to keep the match alive, Harvard didn't allow NJIT to lead by more than one in the third set. Following an 18-18 tie, the Crimson rattled off seven of the final eight points to get on the board with a 25-19 set victory.
Harvard held several four-point leads at 14-10 and 16-12 but a 4-0 Highlanders run tied the fourth set. The Crimson again pulled in front at 19-17 but another impressive run from the home team brought match point at 24-20. Harvard fought off a pair of match points but a Crimson service error ultimately settled the fourth set at 25-22 in favor of the Highlanders.
