BOSTON – Sophomore
Tyler Shulman hit a solo home run around the Pesky Pole, and the Crimson scored three runs in the top of the ninth, but Harvard University baseball fell to Northeastern University, 5-4, in the championship game of The Baseball Beanpot at Fenway Park on Tuesday night.
Playing at Fenway for the first time since 2019, the Crimson (11-23) – competing in the Beanpot championship game for the 15
th time – grabbed an early 1-0 lead and trimmed a 5-1 deficit down to 5-4 with three runs in the ninth before the Huskies (34-9) held on for the decision to extend their winning streak to 13 games.
Shulman finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run – his second of the season while first-year
Liam Wilson hit a triple – his second of the season.
In the day's opening game at Fenway, Boston College defeated Massachusetts in the third-place game, 13-6.

Harvard Highlights
- Sophomore Tyler Shulman went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a home run, and a run scored. He blasted his second homer of the year and the third of his career.
- First-year Liam Wilson posted a triple – his second of the year.
- First-year Gavin Smith contributed a hit and a run scored.
- Junior Gio Colasante walked and scored a run, and sophomore Lou Targoff came into the game as a pinch runner and scored a run.
- Sophomore Jack Rickheim, senior William Lybrook, and sophomore Ryan Mooney each added a walk.
- Junior left-hander Brian Dowling threw 4.1 innings in the start with three strikeouts. He started both games for the Crimson in The Beanpot this season, totaling 8.1 innings pitched and allowing five runs on six hits and five walks with six strikeouts.
- First-year left-hander Charley Bergsma tossed 2.2 innings in relief, giving up no runs on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
- Sophomore right-hander Andrew Abler hurled a scoreless and hitless bottom of the eighth.
How It Happened
- Harvard opened the game's scoring as Shulman wrapped a solo home run around the Pesky Pole down the right field line in the top of the second.
- The Huskies tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second with an RBI double off the wall in right center.
- In the top of the fifth, Wilson laced a triple off the wall just to the left of center field with two outs before the Huskies escaped the jam.
- Northeastern plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth to gain a 5-1 edge. An RBI double highlighted the frame for the designated hosts.
- Bergsma tossed scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh to keep the score at 5-1 heading to the eighth inning, and Abler hurled a scoreless eighth to keep the scoreline the same.
- The Crimson continued to battle in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with one out. Smith then scored on a wild pitch before Shulman sent a two-run single into left center to plate Targoff and Colasante prior to the Huskies closing the contest.
