CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard women's rugby turned in a commanding performance in its season home opener, defeating AIC, 55-7. The Crimson showcased both veteran leadership and breakout performances from first-years, with three players recording their first career tries in the win.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS

  • First-year Sana'a Lunon opened the match with energy, diving across the line for her first career try just minutes in. Ava Ference calmly converted to give Harvard an early 7-0 advantage.
  • The Crimson doubled their lead soon after when Tiahna Padilla punched through the defense. Ference again added the extras to make it 14-0. Lunon followed up with her second try of the first half, powering Harvard ahead 19-0.
  • Momentum continued when Gemma Ogoke broke through multiple defenders for her first career try. Ference's third successful conversion extended the margin to 26-0. AIC managed to find the try zone just before halftime, narrowing the gap, but Harvard entered the break firmly in control, 26-7.
  • The Crimson struck quickly after the restart. Ference crossed the line for a try of her own to push the score to 31-7. Minutes later, Eva Rankin finished off a smooth attacking sequence created by a strong run and offload from Maya Hilger, stretching the lead to 38-7.
  • Harvard's attack only grew stronger as Evie Eyers bolted past several defenders for a try, then converted her own kick, 45-7. Soon after, the Crimson's all-time try leader Lennox London notched her first score of the senior campaign, bringing the total to 50-7.
  • The highlight of the day came in the closing minutes, when Lunon completed her hat trick. The first-year cut through the AIC defense with a dazzling solo run, sealing Harvard's 55-7 victory.
