Women's Rugby Claims Victory at Home vs. Brown, 47-8

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Harvard women's rugby continued its strong start to the 2025 season with a commanding 47–8 victory over Ivy rival Brown at Mignone Field on Saturday afternoon. The win marks the Crimson's third straight to open the year.

The Bears got on the board first, capitalizing on a penalty kick to take an early 3–0 lead. From there, however, the Crimson seized control and dominated both sides of the ball. Harvard's defensive line held firm for the rest of the half while its attack surged, racking up 33 unanswered points before the break.

Junior Courtney Taylor sparked the offense with the first try of the afternoon, crashing over the line and setting the tone for the Crimson. Ava Ference connected on the conversion to give Harvard the lead. Just minutes later, first-year Madelyn Hubbell scored the first try of her Harvard career, stretching across the try line to extend the advantage. Ference again slotted the conversion for the extra points.

The Crimson kept the pressure on as Amber Van Meines broke through the Brown defense to ground another try, followed shortly after by co-captain Charlotte Gilmour, who finished off a powerful maul drive. Harvard's momentum peaked just before halftime when senior Lennox London — already the program's all-time try leader — intercepted a Brown pass and sprinted the length of the field for a crowd-energizing score. Ference's third successful conversion capped the explosive half at 33–3 in favor of Harvard.

Brown broke through in the 14th minute of the second half with a try of its own, trimming the deficit to 33–8. But Harvard quickly regained control. Junior Neasa McLaughlin crossed midway through the half for another Crimson try, with senior Skylar Jordan converting to push the margin even wider. In the closing stages, sophomore standout Sana'a Lunon — who has been on a scoring tear to open the season — dove into the try zone for her sixth try of the year, sealing the 47–8 final.
