HANOVER, N.H. – The Harvard women's rugby team battled back to earn a dramatic 36–33 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday in Hanover, marking a statement win for the Crimson against one of its toughest Ivy rivals. The Crimson stay undefeated through five games.
Harvard struck early as first-year Gemma Ogoke powered through two Dartmouth defenders with a stiff arm before racing into the try zone to give the Crimson a 5–0 advantage. Building on the momentum,
Maya Hilger found space near the goal line to add another try, with
Skylar Jordan converting to push the lead to 12–0. Harvard's relentless pressure led to a third score, stretching the margin to 17–0 midway through the opening half.
Dartmouth responded with resilience, stringing together three unanswered tries and a conversion to close the first half on a 21–0 run. The surge flipped the scoreboard in the Big Green's favor, sending Harvard into halftime trailing 21–17.
The hosts continued to press after the break, adding another try to build a 28–17 cushion. Harvard, however, refused to fold. Ogoke broke through once more with a powerful finish at the goal line, cutting the deficit to 28–24. Dartmouth added a fifth try to make it 33–24, but Harvard answered quickly when Lennox London received a pass on the wing and dove into the corner, narrowing the gap to 33–29.
With time expired and one final possession to decide the match, the Crimson produced its most decisive moment. Tiahna Padilla broke through Dartmouth's defensive line for a long run, advancing all the way to within feet of the try zone. As she was brought down, Padilla managed an offload to first-year
Sophie Hayes, who touched down for the game-winning try. Jordan calmly slotted the conversion, securing a 36–33 comeback victory.
The win showcased Harvard's determination and depth, with contributions from veterans and first-years alike. Ogoke's two-try performance highlighted the Crimson's offensive power, while Hayes' score sealed a memorable finish.
