Football’s Smith Named NEFW Gold Helmet Award Recipient

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Football quarterback Charlie Smith has been named the recipient of this week's New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native picks up the Crimson's second honor of the season after Xaden Benson was recognized following Harvard's road win at Brown.

The sophomore on Saturday completed 23 of 27 pass attempts for 275 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Crimson to a 41-29 triumph at Cornell, which entered the game in a first-place tie with the visitors atop the Ivy standings.

After Smith's first pass was intercepted, giving way to the Big Red taking a 10-0 lead, the QB completed 15 consecutive passes en route to Harvard scoring 41 unanswered points. Smith finished with a passer rating of 200.0, and, in the process, matched his career high with three touchdown passes and set a personal record with an 85.2 completion percentage. He also connected with nine different receivers, the most Harvard has used in a game this season.

Smith and the Crimson now shift their focus to Holy Cross, which visits Harvard Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Tickets to the Youth Day game are available at GoCrimson.com.
