Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Langenbahn Scores in 90th Minute to Help Men’s Soccer to Draw Against Penn, 3-3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It came down to the final minute in a highly entertaining match between the Harvard and Penn men's soccer squads. Tim Langenbahn sent shockwaves through Jordan Field, when his 90th minute equalizer tied the score and helped Harvard earn a key conference point with a draw against the Quakers. After leading 1-0 after an Andreas Savva goal in the first half, the sides exploded for a five-goal second half in a game that finished in a 3-3 draw.

Langenbahn, Savva and Adam Poliakov scored the goals for the Crimson and Alejandro Palacio continued to find his teammates, logging two assists in the contest.

How it Happened

  • Adam Poliakov had the first scoring chance of the game after a slow build up in the opening minutes. His shot in the box was blocked and deflected wide in the ninth minute of play.
  • Harvard broke through five minutes later as Poliakov completed a strong run up the wing, fighting through contact with a defender before threading a shot across the field to Andreas Savva. The Crimson captain slammed a shot into the back of the net to put Harvard up, 1-0 in the 15th minute.
  • Penn finally managed to create a few chances late in the half, putting three shots on goal in the final 15 minutes. Two shots were blocked by Crimson defenders and only one made it through to goalkeeper, Jason Broome, who cleaned up the attempt.
  • Harvard went into the half up 1-0 after a great defensive showing in the opening 45 minutes.
  • The paced picked up as soon as the second half kicked off as Penn looked for its equalizer.
  • The Quakers found the goal it was looking for in the 58th minute, with Isaac Tortola providing the game-tying-goal.
  • Dylan Tellado looked to answer just a minute later but his attempt was blocked and deflected out of play.
  • After the defense cleaned up another pair of Penn attempts, the Crimson had a dangerous opportunity right in front of the Quaker net. A free kick by Phoenix Wooten was sent into the 18 and headed down by Gil de Souza. Tim Langenbahn got a shot off the flick pass but too much underneath the shot, as it crept just over the crossbar.
  • Harvard pulled in front in the 73rd minute when Ben Kelly roped a cross to the far post, finding Poliakov who put a header shot into the back of the net. Poliakov's second contribution of the game put Harvard in the lead, 2-1.
  • Penn answered just over 90 seconds later, tying the match at 2-2 with a goal from Marco Bottene.
  • Poliakov had a chance to respond for Harvard in the 81st minute but his attempt found the arms of the outstretched Penn keeper, Phillip Falco.
  • The Quakers capitalized on the counter, pushing in front with a goal in the 82nd minute from Romeo Dahlin.
  • The Crimson kept pushing in the closing minutes, looking for an equalizer.
  • Off a corner kick in the final minute, play was shifted back out wide to Alejandro Palacio, who threaded a crossing pass towards the far post. The pass met the head of Dylan Tellado, who pushed the ball into the middle, where Langenbahn was lurking right in front. The junior center back headed the pass into the back of the net, giving Harvard the equalizer with just 16 seconds remaining.
  • The Crimson took a crucial point away from the draw and remain firmly in the Ivy League Tournament hunt heading into the final two matches of the season.
