Harvard Athletes Enjoy Successful Start to 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard athletes are orchestrating strong results to start the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, striving in competition across several sports and roles.

A three-time All-American and the 2023 NCAA national champion in the men's 20k classic, Rémi Drolet '24 kicked-off his time with Team Canada in the men's sprint classic in cross-country skiing, finishing in 56th place with a time of 3:27.72 in the qualification round. A native of Rossland, British Columbia, Drolet continued his time in Italy in the in the men's 10km + 10km skiathlon, placing in 42nd place with a time of 50:22.0.

Drolet continues his Olympic journey on Friday, Feb. 13 at 5:45 a.m. in the men's 10km interval start free at the Tesero Cross-Country Stadium.

Tess Johnson, a current undergraduate student at the Harvard Extension School, shined in the qualifying round of the Freestyle Skiing Women's Moguls, taking ninth place with a score of 73.79 and finishing in 10th in the final after tallying a score of 75.31. The women's dual moguls await Johnson on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 4:30 a.m. eastern time.

A pair of Crimson women's hockey alumnae represented their respective nations on the ice at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. Kristin Della Rovere '23 and Italy finished in third place in group B after earning wins against France and Japan. Della Rovere appeared in every contest for Team Italy, scoring a pair of goals and tallying two assists, as Italy will face the United States in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 3:10 p.m.

Emarance Maschmeyer '16 and Canda are 3-1 after the preliminary round, picking up victories against Switzerland, Czechia and Finland. In a showdown with Switzerland in the preliminary round, Maschmeyer played all 60 minutes between the posts, leading Canada to a 4-0 win. Maschmeyer and Canada face Germany in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 10:40 a.m. eastern time.

Don Sweeney '88, assistant general manager for Team Canada's men's hockey squad, kicked off his time overseeing a 5-0 win against Czechia to begin the preliminary round.

Dan Cnossen MPA '16, MTS '18 will represent the United States in the Men's Paralympic Biathlon and Paralympic Cross-Country Skiing during the Winter Paralympics from Friday, Feb. 6 to Sunday, Mar. 15.
