CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's basketball (16-10, 9-4 Ivy) dropped its final home contest of the season to Princeton (23-3, 11-2 Ivy), 62-49, this evening in Lavietes Pavilion.
How it Happened
The Crimson's offense struggled early in the first frame, but its defense bothered the Tigers, not allowing the deficit to grow past 6-0. Harvard eventually got going and rattled off the next eight points to pull in front.
Katie Krupa came to play on her senior night recording seven of Harvard's first 10 points. Despite its slow start, the Crimson led 13-11 after the first quarter.
The second quarter remained close throughout as the Crimson and Tigers continuously responded to each other's buckets.
Nina Emnace connected with under two minutes remaining to tie the contest at 22-all but a five-point Princeton swing gave the Tigers the lead heading into the locker room.
The Tigers carried over their momentum from the first half and extended their lead to 12 after tallying the first seven points. Ignited by its full court pressure, the Crimson began its push, and an 8-0 run cut the deficit to just two possessions. The teams continued to trade runs as the Tigers responded by pushing their lead back out to nine but a pair of triples from
Karlee White and Mary Holensteiner cut the deficit back to three. One more run gave Princeton the momentum back as they held the Crimson scoreless in the final two minutes to head into the fourth quarter with an 11-point lead.
Despite attempted pushes, the Crimson struggled on the offensive end and never cut the deficit below nine in the final frame. The Tigers ultimately left Cambridge with a 13-point victory.
