Men's Hockey Falls in Game Three to No. 9 Cornell

ITHACA, NY. - Men's hockey fell in game three of the ECAC quarterfinals Sunday afternoon by a score of 5-2 as the 2025-26 season came to a close.

Down by two heading into the third, William Hughes pulled the Crimson within one with nearly half the period to go before Cornell put two into the empty net to move on to Lake Placid.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both Charette and Cournoyer made some big stops in the first period as the Crimson and Big Red went back and forth in the first period but it was the Crimson who struck first in the decisive third game of the ECAC quarterfinals.

On the power-play, Heikki Ruohoen won a battle in the corner and fed a no look pass to Michael Callow who banked it off Lucas St. Louis for his first of the season. A big goal for the Crimson, it was the second time this series that the Crimson had the first goal of the game.

Nearly a minute after the Crimson goal, Cornell tied the game off a defensive breakdown leading to a 2 on 1 opportunity for the Big Red where Reegan Hiscock made no mistake. The first period would end tied at one apiece.

Harvard would kill an early penalty to Mason Langenbrunner to start the second period before another Crimson penalty would give Cornell the lead. Xavier Vellieux was able to walk in and fire a puck that deflected off of Ryan Walsh for the Big Red lead. Four minutes later, the Big Red would double their lead after Michal Fisher beat Charette short side for a 3-1 lead that they would carry into the break.

Richard Gallant had a breakaway early in the third period but was unable to beat Curnoyver on the backhand as the Crimson looked to pull the game back within reach.

Will Hughes banged in a loose puck in the crease to pull the Crimson back within one with 12:50 left in the third period.

Harvard had multiple great chances as they began to control the momentum of the game but they couldn't find the tying goal. Cornell would score twice on the empty net.

Harvard has now lost in game three of the ECAC quarterfinals in back-to-back seasons.
