CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's tennis (13-10, 3-1 Ivy) breezed past Yale (16-7, 3-2 Ivy), 6-1, this afternoon in Cambridge.
"That was big win today against a very solid Yale team. t took some of our best tennis of the season to beat them," said
Andrew Rueb '95, the Scott Mead '77 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Tennis.
"We are peaking at the right time and starting to build some momentum into the final weeks of the Ivy season."
Outside of a Yale win on the top doubles court, it was all Harvard to start. The Crimson's duos on courts two and three both delivered 6-2 wins to capture the doubles point for Harvard.
Harvard then won all six first sets in singles including
Rohan Murali and
Nathan Blokhin blanking their opponents. Blokhin went on to grab the first singles point of the day, cruising past Jason Shuler (Yale), 6-0, 6-3.
Masato Perera followed closely behind with an equally impressive win, defeating Ethan Chung (Yale) while only dropping two games (6-2, 6-0).
Melchior Delloye then clinched the match for Harvard, downing Eric Li (Yale) with a pair 6-4 decisions on court four.
With the match already decided, the Crimson continued to stack wins.
Mitchell Lee added Harvard's fourth straight-set win with a victory over Dylan Tsoi (Yale), 7-5, 6-4.
Yale captured its one point of the day on court two before
Rohan Murali stole the final point on court one. The junior defeated the No. 29 nationally ranked singles player, Vignesh Gogineni (Yale), 6-0, 1-6, 7-5, on the top court.
"We brought the energy right from the first point in doubles and pushed till the end with Rohan earning another top 30 win at No. 1 singles," continued Rueb.
