Softball Drops Nonconference Clash Against Boston University

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard softball returned to Soldiers Field this afternoon with a crosstown showdown against Patriot League foe Boston University, as the Crimson fell in a 11-6 contest.

Once again, Harvard's offense found success, as the Crimson tallied double-digit hits for a second-straight contest. The 2025 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, sophomore Alexa Muller led all Crimson at the dish, tallying three hits and four RBIs. Along with Muller, three other Crimson also recorded multiple hits against the Terriers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The meeting between Harvard (16-16-1, 8-4 Ivy League) and Boston University (34-11, 11-1 Patriot League) started with a bang, as the two sides combined for seven runs in the first inning. The Terriers scored the opening three runs in the top half of the first, as the Crimson manufactured an immediate response to take a 4-3 lead.

With two runners on base, Muller put the Crimson on the board, clearing the bases with a two-run RBI-single, 3-2. On the very next at-bat, Harvard evened the score, as first-year infielder Hannah Ziecik hit a pitch into shallow right field to bring home Muller, 3-3. The Crimson took the lead later in the inning, as a bases loaded walk from senior outfielder Lael Ayala scored Harvard's fourth run of the inning, 4-3.

After silencing the Terriers in the second, Harvard tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame. After back-to-back singles from senior infielder Finley Payne and junior infielder Sophie Sun, Muller capitalized offensively once again, driving in both runner with a double into right center field, 6-3.

From there, Boston University scored the last eight runs of the game to take the 11-6 victory. Harvard recorded six runs on 11 hits, as Muller led the way at the plate with three hits and four RBIs. Payne, Sun and sophomore catcher Quinn Salazar-Stewart all recorded two hits as well.
