Softball Defeats Stonehill at Soldiers Field, 11-4

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard softball is back in the win column, as the Crimson toppled Stonehill, 11-4, at Soldiers Field in its final nonconference matchup of the 2026 regular season.

Home runs from junior pitcher Nicolette Hunter and junior infielder Sophie Sun made the difference for the Crimson, as Harvard tallied 11 runs for the second time in the last three contests. Four different Crimson recorded multiple hits as Hunter and senior pitcher Riley Flynn combined for 10 strikeouts in the circle.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Once again, the first inning proved to be productive offensively for Harvard (19-17-1, 10-5 Ivy League), as the Crimson jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. After a leadoff triple from senior infielder Finley Payne, sophomore infielder Alexa Muller found the gap in right center field to score the first run of the day with an RBI double, 1-0.

The Crimson would go on to tally three more runs in the bottom of the first to establish a 4-0 advantage, as Stonehill (9-31, 6-12 Northeast Conference) would tally a pair of runs in the third to cut the Crimson lead to two, 4-2.
In the bottom of the third, Harvard wasted no time in extending its lead once again with a trio of runs. With runners on first and second, Hunter ripped a line drive into the gap in left center field, clearing the bases with an RBI double, 6-2. Sophomore outfielder Elena Weinseimer changed the scoreboard to 7-2 with an RBI single.

The two sides exchanged runs again in the fourth inning. After the Skyhawks manufactured two runs on a homer, Harvard answered with a three-run home run in its half of the fourth inning. Hunter once again shined in a key spot at the plate, as the Camarillo, California put the Crimson up six with a three-run home run, 10-4.

An All-Ivy League Second Team pick in 2025, Hunter now has four home runs this season, a mark that ranks second on Harvard during the 2026 campaign.

Sun would wrap up the Harvard scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run, 11-4, as the Crimson would close out the day for its 19th win of the season. Harvard scored its 11 runs on 13 hits, as Hunter led the way with a career-high six RBIs on two hits. In the circle, Hunter and Flynn each struck out five batters.

  • Hunter drove in a career-best six runs on two hits. A native of Camarillo, California, Hunter is only the second Crimson this season to drive in six or more runs in a single game.
