Softball Concludes Series with Princeton

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard softball wrapped up its 2026 home slate this afternoon, as the Crimson fell short in the series finale against Princeton, 8-2.

At the plate, junior infielder Sophie Sun launched a home run in the second inning, as Sun now has 11 home runs this season and 28 home runs in her Crimson career. A native of Austin, Texas, Sun's 11 home runs this season are tied for third most in a season in Harvard softball history.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The series finale at Soldiers Field started with Harvard (19-20-1, 10-8 Ivy League) trading runs with Princeton (29-11, 17-1) in the first inning. The top of the first saw the Tigers bring across two runs on two hits, 2-0, as Harvard immediately leveled the score in its half of the first. After a walk from senior infielder Finley Payne, Sun crushed a pitch to right center field for her second home run of the series, 2-2.

A native of Austin, Texas, Sun has now hit 11 home runs this season, a new career-high for the 2024 Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year. That home run total is tied for third in program history for most home runs in a single season.

After a scoreless second inning, Princeton took the lead, scoring four runs in the top of the third, 6-2. The Tigers would add two more runs in the fifth inning to cement the final scoreline, 8-2.

Harvard recorded two runs on four hits, as Sun led the way with her second multi-hit effort in the past three contests.
