Vanessa Zhang Completes Play at NCAA Tallahassee Regional

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Harvard women's golf standout sophomore Vanessa Zhang completed play at the 2026 NCAA Regional Tournament today (May 13), closing out the tournament tied for 38th place after a three-round score of 225 (+9). Zhang posted a first-round score of 75 (+3) and finds herself in the middle of the leaderboard after the first 18 holes at Seminole Legacy Golf Club. In a weather-affected second round that featured several delays on the course, Zhang carded a score of 76 (+4) and closed out her run at regionals with a day three score of 74 (+2).

How it Happened

Zhang swung up and down on the first nine holes of the day. Beginning on the back nine at Seminole Legacy, the Harvard sophomore opened the tournament with a bogey and a birdie on the 10th and 11th holes, respectively. After another bogey on the tricky par three 13th hole, Zhang fought back to even par with a birdie on the par four 16th hole. The sophomore needed to fight back once again on the front nine after suffering back-to-back bogeys on 18 and 1.  Zhang continued her fight on the front nine, posting birdies two and six in an effort to get back to even par. Bogeys on the third, seventh and ninth holes would keep Zhang off the even line by three strokes after a first round score of 75 (+3). After 18 holes, Zhang was tied for 42nd in the field but was still within striking distance of the individual leader, Isabella Rawl of Clemson, who sat at three-under-par after day one.

Rain and wind came into the Tallahassee area on Tuesday morning and created harsh conditions on the course at Seminole Legacy for the second round of the NCAA Regional. Zhang began play just before noon and would not finish her round until nearly 7:00 PM due to multiple rain delays. Starting on hole 10, Zhang powered through the conditions to post a front nine score of 37 (+1). The first nine holes featured two bogeys and a birdie. The sophomore dropped back to four-over-par on the day after three consecutive bogeys to start the front nine. She had a few opportunities to battle back on the remaining six holes but carded six straight pars to finish the round at the same score. Her second round score of 76 (+4) dropped her back into T41 entering the final round of action. Zhang was eight shots back of the individual leader entering the final round.

Zhang made positive strides on day three of the regionals, carding a 74 (+2) in her lowest round of the tournament. After posting a double bogey on her first hole of the day, Zhang recorded pars on 10 consecutive holes. The sophomore then scored on back-to-back holes with birdies to get bcak to even par. Zhang completed the round with a pair of bogeys on the fifth and eighth holes to close out the day at two-over-par.
